Get your hands dirty

Tons of people don’t get a university education. Of those who do, not everyone gets the same quality education. Sometimes it’s because their university is smaller, without access to an abundance of facilities. Sometimes they can’t find the perfect courses to expand their horizons and learn what they want to learn. But for the most part, it’s because they think that the only time to work is in class.

These are the people who say,“Education belongs in books”

If reading that phrase made you bristle, slam your computer against a wall, and threaten to phone your local representative, then this team is for you. We too believe that practical experience is invaluable.

Working in this team, you’ll get to pitch your ideas, and actually have people listen, advise, and support you through it. You’ll get to run projects that you conceive yourself, and be able to demonstrate your ability through results beyond what you do in class. This applies to everybody who is at Western to learn.

And specifically for those technical folk, you’ll be getting hands-on machine shop experience before your peers, learning course material before other people have heard of it, and generally feeling at home in Engineering. Trust us, that feeling doesn’t come easy.

Where do you fit in?

You don’t have to be in a certain faculty to be on a certain part of the team – if you’re in an arts program and want to build a chassis, we can make that happen. If you’re in engineering but like social media, we’ve got a spot for you. If you don’t see a position here that you’d like to fill – get in touch and we’ll see what we can do for you!

Here’s a breakdown of what you can expect from each section of our team.

Website Design

Like working with websites? get involved with our Information and Media team to learn how to build, edit, and maintain a website. This may be especially useful for those taking courses in HTML/CSS/JavaScript, or just with using the Adobe Creative Suite. A large part of our web work is maintaining the UI, and keeping it correlated with our marketing team’s branding efforts.

Enjoy writing? We can always use more people on our team to write for our blog or to write an article for a paper or magazine – get your name out there!

Giving Back

Our team likes to support programs that we think are a worthy cause, especially any programs that have helped us to get to where we are today.

 Film & Photography

Our team and car are very photogenic. Very. If you’re interested in putting together interviews, documentaries, promo videos, or albums, we’d love to have you on our team!

This is why you came to the website in the first place, isn’t it? You probably skipped all the rest of the cool pages. Don’t worry, we’re still glad you’ve made it here.

For our competitions, we must select drivers from the team. As in, anybody who drives for us must be part of the team. Although having an understanding of the car they drive is important, they don’t have to be engineers. Just curious folk with a penchant for asking car questions.
If you have any driving experience, or are just interested in learning to drive a racecar, come out and get to know us!

We're a family

Working together and for each other is what we’re good at. You build relationships on this team that you’ll always miss once you graduate. The older students who guide you, the younger ones who are in awe of you. The people who command respect, and the secret geniuses. We’re all here. We make your life interesting.

Nothing compares to the achievement of having built something ensemble, be that an advertising campaign, an annual financial plan, great business relationships, or a sweet aero package. You can stay comfortable in the knowledge that you pushed the most you could get out of your time here at Western.

Formula is a team sport

And we’re proud of it.
